Western Michigan University and Eastern Michigan University have
tied as Co-Recipients for the National AIPG Student Chapter of the Year!
Michigan Technological University has been awarded
the prestigious 2026 National AIPG Student Chapter Excellence Award!
These national honors recognize outstanding student leadership, community and department outreach, and dedication to advancing the geosciences. Michigan chapters have a long history of national excellence—having captured top national awards repeatedly—and seeing three of our universities recognized at the highest level in the same year highlights the incredible standard of student leadership and passion across our state!
Congratulations to the student leaders, members, and faculty advisors at WMU, EMU, and Michigan Tech on these well-deserved national honors!
2026 Andrew Mozola Scholarship Award
Congratulations to
Jack Garrison from Michigan State University (MSU)
for being selected as the 2026 Andrew Mozola Memorial Scholarship recipient!
The Andrew Mozola Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually by the AIPG Michigan Section to support outstanding undergraduate students pursuing degrees in geology or geosciences at accredited Michigan colleges and universities.
The scholarship honors academic excellence, curiosity, creative leadership, and active engagement in the geoscience profession.
Award Amount: $4,000
Purpose: Helps offset undergraduate educational costs while encouraging student participation in AIPG and promoting career pathways in the earth sciences.
Eligibility Criteria:
Enrolled at an accredited college or university in Michigan.
Sophomore standing or higher pursuing a geology or geoscience major.
Active AIPG student member at the time of application.
Minimum overall GPA of 3.0, with a 3.5 GPA in geoscience courses.
Requires a narrative cover letter sharing the student's personal story and career aspirations, an academic transcript, and a faculty letter of recommendation.
AIPG student members gain access to a global network of professional mentors, serve as the future leaders of the geosciences, and actively engage their communities by sharing their passion for the Earth sciences. We are especially proud to celebrate EMU, WMU, and Michigan Tech for taking top national honors in 2026, showcasing the exceptional talent and drive of our future geoscientists here in Michigan!

To receive the $1,000 annual financial support from the Michigan Section , chapters must meet specific deadlines and submission guidelines throughout the academic year.
